April 1, 2, 3, 2023

3 days of deep and intentional yoga practice set against the backdrop of natural beauty that Mayne Island has in abundance. We will engage in stabilizing and transformative yogic practices that lead to building an inner matrix, rather than just technical expertise. By honing our capacity to pay attention, in and through the body, we honour the Truth of our connection to all of Life.

We will gather for morning and afternoon yogasana, pranayama and meditation sessions and enjoy the good company of yoga friends over some meals together. Opportunities for great conversation, group walks and also for rest and relaxation.

Patanjali, the great sage of Classical Yoga, has given the 8 limbs of yoga as: yama (ethical principles), niyama (virtuous observances), āsana (yoga postures), prānāyāma (yogic breath), pratyāhāra (withdrawal of the senses), dhārana (concentration), dhyāna (meditation), samādhi (profound absorption).

It is common in the western world that we start with the practice of āsana, and it is our doorway into the world of yoga. At some point, we may find ourselves sensing that there is so much more, and we start to do a little breath work or meditation etc. Yoga is more than just a practice, it is a way of living with skillful means that has the potential to enliven and illuminate everything, such as our relationships, our jobs and even how we see the world around us.

We will look at bringing these pieces together and integrating them so that they are no longer artificial, textbook definitions, but living wisdom expressed in the fabric of our daily lives. The inner matrix is what holds it all, supports our ability to do both the inner work and outer work of fulfilling our own unique potential in this lifetime.

Krisna inspires her students to become practitioners of Yoga. Under her tutelage over the past 8 years, I have learned to bring a playfulness to the mat, to try new things, to sometimes fail, but to always have plenty to reflect on afterwards. Krisna’s gentle but firm guidance has helped me learn to listen to my body and to the inner teacher, as she calls it, and to own and develop my practice. I am fortunate and grateful to have this wonderful teacher and person in my life.
